The Institution of Environmental Sciences

The Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) is a charitable organisation which aims to raise public awareness of Environmental Science by supporting professionals, scientists and academics working in this crucial arena.  As a seminal Environmental Sciences organisation, founded in 1971, the Institution is consulted by the Government and other interested parties on environmental issues. 

The Institution aims to:

  • Support the development of Environmental Professionals and their careers
  • Facilitate the enhancement Environmental Science education
  • Promote and increase awareness of Environmental Science

The IES and Chartered Environmentalist Status

As a founding member and constituent body of the Society for the Environment, the IES is able to award the status of Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) to certain members of the Institution.  This award is gaining recognition within the profession and amongst employers.  Chartered Environmentalist status recognises individual commitment, competence and expertise in the Environmental Science filed.

Membership of the Institution offers support on a career path - from the early stages to Chartered status, attracting high calibre professionals with significant specialist and interdisciplinary experience.

  • Member (MIEnvSc)
  • Associate (AMIEnvSc)

Qualification for membership is normally based on academic and professional experience within the Environmental sector.
