This role will be working within the CEP business of Eunomia.  CEP ( works with a range of public, private and non-governmental clients both in the UK and internationally, including the EU institutions, to put the environment and communities at the heart of decision making by promoting positive environmental, social and sustainability change through robust and innovative research, strategy and policy support.  CEP delivers sustainable solutions to challenging issues, providing a professional, conscientious and innovative approach.

The Role / ideal Candidate detail:

The successful individual will undertake a variety of tasks as part of projects, under the ultimate direction of CEP Project Directors.  Project management / coordination, research and drafting reports and preparing tenders to a high standard will be key parts of the role.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent academic record with a natural science or social science degree (e.g. biology, ecology, environmental science, marine / earth science, geography, psychology, sociology, social anthropology, politics, social research methods) plus a Master’s level degree in a relevant area.  Ideally you will have at least 8-10 years relevant work experience.

Experience / skills within the environmental and/or sustainability fields, undertaking social research and expertise in at least one of the following is essential:

·       Evaluations of policies, programmes and processes - particularly in the natural environment field.

·       Research, policy and practice related to flood risk management and/or climate change adaptation, including ideally experience related to vulnerability and resilience to flood risk / climate change impacts.

·       European environmental policy assessment/analysis and research to provide evidence for policy making.  Experience should be in our main topics of interest / expertise (e.g. natural environment, flood risk, water management, climate change adaptation, urban sustainability, etc). Knowledge / experience of foresight (e.g. horizon scanning) for environmental policy would be desirable.

·       Policy, assessments and technical studies and research concerning the natural environment including natural capital, ecosystem services, biodiversity, green infrastructure and nature based solutions.

·       Social, health and wellbeing benefits of the natural environment.

·       Behaviour change approaches within the natural environment field.

We will also be particularly interested to hear from candidates with some European policy knowledge / experience.

You will have an enthusiasm for the work we undertake and a proven adaptability to new challenges. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and social research skills (qualitative and/or quantitative) are essential. An appreciation of the demands of working in a small consultancy will be a strong advantage. While the working language for the post is English, skills in other European languages would be beneficial.

What do we offer?

A competitive salary (the provisional salary for this role is up to £55,000 [there is flexibility for exceptional candidates]) with excellent benefits (including Private Healthcare [which includes dental provision], EAP, Death in Service scheme, Group Pension, Income Protection Scheme (after completion of probationary period). 24 days holiday per year (plus Bank Holidays) rising by 1 day each year to a maximum of 30 days per year and the option to "buy" up to five more days annual leave. All of us have a monthly wellbeing allowance and can take an additional 2 days “leave” a year for volunteering.
