Title: Senior/Principal Hydromorphologist or Hydrologist
Location: Dublin, Galway, Cork or Donegal on a hybrid basis (2x a week)
Desired experience: At least 10+ years in a Irish or British context

Role overview/responsibilities:
Gaia's client is one of the world’s leading providers of environmental professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland. Our client is seeking a Senior/Principal Hydromorphologist/Hydrologist for water projects, schemes and to address general water use and management issues throughout Ireland. You will be a Hydromorphologist and/or a Hydrologist that knows about and understands the hydromorphological and hydrological aspects of ecological status as defined by the Water Framework Directive and will have a good understanding of the kind of measures that need to be implemented to improve hydromorphology and hydrology where it is currently poor. You will need good experience and understanding of the main hydromorphological issues impacting Ireland’s water resources, primarily the presence of barriers, as well as dredging and canalisation. You will need a good knowledge of how to ameliorate such issues, and in particular, of the design, implementation and use of nature-based solutions and natural flood management measures to address these issues.
Requirements/knowledge of some or all of the following:
- Geomorphological assessment at catchment and reach scale.
- River restoration, particularly related to barrier mitigation and removal.
- Fish passage/passes.
- Experience of peatland restoration would also be useful.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Educated to at least Degree level (Level 8/9).
- Relevant work experience, at least some of which will be in a consultancy environment.
- Chartered Scientist, Environmentalist or Ecologist.
- Experience of undertaking business development and client engagement
- Experience pf proposal and tender writing and winning and delivering won work.
- Full Irish/EU driving licence.
